Garden design and rural home life
Antrim Castle Gardens lie beside the Sixmilewater River. Their formal design includes long canals, enclosed gardens and a planted mound. The exact date of the layout is uncertain: documentary evidence records the garden as already mature in the early eighteenth century. Later alterations included changes to the parterres and kitchen garden, so one creation date cannot describe all the surviving features. Sentry Hill preserves a nineteenth-century farmhouse whose contents illustrate a former rural way of life. It offers a domestic farming-history example alongside the estate grounds.
