This Belfast City page uses the NISRA settlement definition. Its focus is the urban waterfront: a place shaped by maritime trade, shipbuilding and commerce, with newer uses introduced through regeneration. The city’s visitor quarters provide local context.
This page covers the settlement. Its boundaries can differ from those of the local council area.
The waterfront and the city’s quarters
The Titanic Quarter occupies Belfast’s historic waterfront. Regeneration has introduced visitor attractions and other uses while retaining connections with its industrial past. Titanic Belfast and related maritime experiences interpret those connections, and the Maritime Mile also concerns this waterfront history.
Other quarters offer different starting points. The Cathedral Quarter is associated with cultural activity, while Queen’s Quarter takes its name from Queen’s University. These visitor districts help describe different parts of the city, but they are neither administrative units nor NISRA statistical boundaries.
